Best filter we have ever used
We have this unit on our sailboat and it does a great job. Most of the time we make our own water from sea water, so having an additional filter is not necessary. However, there are times when we take on water in remote locations.
When our water maker was broken on a recent trip in the Bahama's, we were forced to take on their water, which smelt and tasted terrible, so much so that we didn't event want to use it to rinse off. However, the Seagull filter was perfect. The water tasted great and no issues with sickness.
We like the unit so much we have purchased a second one to be installed outside and will tie it into the ice maker.
Does not remove bad or excessive minerals or Toxic sodium fluoride
This water filter does not remove Sodium Fluoride from municipal water supplies. Sodium fluoride is against the law in 32 countries. The world's foremost authority on sodium fluoride is a retired dentist. Dr. David Kennedy lives in San Diego and has his own website devoted to warning people how Sodium fluoride damages at least 20 parts of your body without helping to prevent tooth decay at all. You can find his website easily in the search engines for all the details. The Seagull IV also does not remove or reduce any excessive or harmful minerals. Reverse osmosis is needed for all these problems. Also, there are better similar water filter systems for less money like the Eternity water filter for example.
Great filter
As far as I can tell from shopping and research, you won't find a more effective filter. If you travel where water supply is potentially contaminated with MTBE, agricultural chemicals, biologicals (amoeba cysts, bacteria, viruses), this filter can protect you. It also gets rid of odors and tastes, delivering what I think is water that tastes like water. I love drinking the water from the X-1F in my motorcoach--1 gal/minute is plenty for drinking and cooking water. The filter comes with the necessary hardware to connect it to the cold supply line and and install the drinking faucet. The stainless vessel can freeze and not crack--nice if you forget to drain it when winter weather sets in. Well made in USA, certified high-performing filter. I would replace mine with one of the same, it has no issues that I have encountered.
